It's horrible.

Wei Wuxian pokes the thing that emerges from the oven, watches it jiggle, then pokes it again.

It's varying shades of grey and an ill sort of green, smells of garlic and carrots, and according to the box Wei Wuxian had used it's called a vegetable loaf. It's an awful name, but Lan Wangji will no doubt love it, provided that Wei Wuxian's use of three different types of lentils doesn't prove too flavorful. If it does, Lan Wangji is unlikely to tell him, Wei Wuxian thinks as he busies himself in the kitchen, trying to clean up the worst of the chaos before Lan Wangji returns from town, new sheet music in tow. He's still got a few gluten free oats stuck to his cheek when he hears the door open, and Wei Wuxian tramples over fallen cherry tomatoes to call out -

"You're early! Stay in the front room!"

"I do. Have never had anything quite like it," he says as he rests his free hand on Wei Ying's leg. "Should find more things made with Lotus. Wei Ying can teach me that taste as he has tried to teach me of spice," he offers, thumb sweeping back and forth across Wei Ying's bony knee as Lan Wangji sips at his tea. "Good for me to try such things."

Wei Wuxian takes another shallow sip, resting his head on Lan Wangji's shoulder. "Shijie would make sweets, sometimes," he says. "Lotus scented biscuits and jellies. And of course, her lotus root soup, though that tastes nothing like the blossoms."

He sighs, rubbing his cheek against Lan Wangji's robes. "I wish you might have tried some when we were home. Before Lotus Pier burned."

"If Wei Ying wishes, we could grow lotus here," Lan Wangji offers, dropping a quick kiss to Wei Ying's head before carefully setting his tea down to wrap an arm around his back.

"Diverting water from the river is not difficult. Can make a small pond. Wei Ying could teach me to grow them. Learn together how to cook with them."

Wei Wuxian smiles, lifting his head. "When the snow has melted," he says, looking past their little table to the window where white can still be seen on the ground. It's made the giant outdoor tub seem an all the more scandalous indulgence, to Wei Wuxian's delight, but he wonders if it will hinder the plants.

"Will they grow here, I wonder? Yunmeng rarely ever got snow."

"Mm, there are structures that can be built," Lan Wangji answers, having no real idea of how to reconstruct the houses of glass that he'd seen in Gusu to protect delicate crops. "A covering, at the least. If Wei Ying wants it, we will make it happen. This is our home, Wei Ying, whatever you desire we can make happen." He drops a kiss to Wei Ying's forehead and then between his dark brows.

Structures? Wei Wuxian cannot even imagine them, but if Lan Wangji says it is possible he believes him. "You will spoil me, Lan Zhan," he laughs, leaning in to kiss his clever mouth.

"A home and our bath and now lotuses also? I will become a terror."

"Wei Ying has a boundless imagination," Lan Wangji counters, leaning into the kiss, entirely inappropriate behavior when still seated at their table. "Home and bath and lotus are tame in comparison with what one might expect. Wei Ying can have un-tame things, too. Can have lewd things. Can have anything. Anything Wei Ying asks for is what I want to give."

Wei Wuxian's grin widens, heat stealing over his skin. "I like when you speak this way to me," he says, taking Lan Wangji at his word and slinging a leg over him to sit in his lap, unmindful of the table edge digging into his back.

"It is even more delightfully shocking when you are still so pristine, in all your many robes and lovely hair pieces. It makes me feel hot all over."

Lan Wangji's hands immediately land on Wei Ying's hips, noting both the immense inappropriateness of their location and the fact that their home had no rule regarding the location of such activities.

He thinks he will overlook it.

"Wei Ying is very strange," he comments, unable to find anything enticing about his exceedingly modest and neat appearance when there is is Wei Ying, often undone and overflowing with mirth and wildness. "Wei Ying's clothing is far better," he says, one hand coming up to gently peel back his two layers to expose his sharp collarbone. "Will you take them off for me? Hair pieces?"

"And now you will let me make a mess of you," Wei Wuxian hums, hands already lifted to remove the larger one, fingers rubbing at the places it has pressed against Lan Wangji's scalp. "You see? Spoiled." He removes the accompanying silver pieces next.

"What else shall I divest you of, Lan Zhan?"

Lan Wangji's eyes flutter shut at Wei Ying's practiced fingers, his promise to take down Lan Wangji's hair holding true and rapidly becoming a most cherished part of his day.

"Hair ribbon, forehead ribbon," he says, voice soft as he realizes what Wei Ying means to do. It is startling how exciting this is, how different it is every time they do it. "Then belt."

Wei Wuxian undoes the hair ribbon with deft fingers, winding it around his wrist after to keep it close. He pulls the forehead ribbon likewise undone, giving in to the impulse to pull the silver charm between his lips, sucking lightly as he reaches down and undoes Lan Wangji's belt, pushing his hand at once into Lan Wangji's robes just to feel the heat of his skin, even through his many layers.

"And then?"

Lan Wangji sucks in a soft breath at the sight of the ribbon in between Wei Ying's lips and his cool hand against his skin. "I like this," he whispers, a little taken aback at Wei Ying's assertiveness. It is not that Wei Ying is passive, it is just that Lan Wangji is so desperate to pleasure him that Wei Ying rarely has opportunity to be like this.

"Robes. One by one. This is okay? Wei Ying not being touched, yet?" he checks, afraid that perhaps he is being selfish with all the attention fixed upon him.

"Lan Zhan's eyes are touching me," Wei Wuxian hums, letting the charm fall from his lips to set carefully on the table. He pulls Lan Wangji's outer robe apart, pushing it off his shoulders, and then the next one, and the soft, thin inner robe after that, until Lan Wangji's pleasantly broader chest is bared to him. "Besides, it is not my special day, it is yours."

Only Lan Wangji's pants remain, and Wei Wuxian presses the heel of his hand against where he is beginning to stir. "I think you are enjoying it."

He does not try and stop his hips from hitching up, eyes widening as they remain fixed on Wei Ying's face. His fingers flex around Wei Ying's hips before he scoots back off the cushion onto the floor, pulling Wei Ying with him.

The air is pleasantly cool against his bare skin and he finds himself glad Wei Ying forgot the day, unsure if he could have survived an entire day of such fixed attention.

"There is oil in the drawer on my side of our bed. Will Wei Ying retrieve it? Then - then the rest. Pants."

If Wei Wuxian weren't similarly affected, he'd recall there is plenty of oil in the kitchen where he's just cooked, but as it is he nods and hurries to their bedroom, rushing back to Lan Wangji to set upon his pants with eager hands. He pulls them down, tongue set to his bottom lip when Lan Wangji's cock springs free. How had he ever not known he could want this?

"And now?" he asks once more, already wrapping his hand around him.

He sucks air through his teeth, squeezing his eyes shut for a moment before looking around at the room and back at Wei Ying's eager face. Uncle would die of shock, equally between what they are doing and where they are doing it.

"Take off your robes," he manages, leaning back onto his elbows as he tries to think. He would normally have pinned Wei Ying down by now but he finds himself liking this, wanting this for once. He wants Wei Ying above him, taking care of him. "What I did in the outside tub, with my finger. Does Wei Ying think I would like it?"

"It will be simple enough to find out," Wei Wuxian answers, struggling out of his robes, grateful that he'd already discarded his gauntlets while cooking in the kitchen. Once naked, he tugs his topknot free, only to gather all his hair in a quick, high bun so it won't get in the way, eying Lan Wangji as he does so.

"Draw one of your legs up."

"I like your hair up," he murmurs, ears warming as he complies, drawing one leg up and ignoring the temptation to switch their roles if for nothing else to take the focus off himself. He wants this, he does, if he can get out of his own way. He at least wants to try.

The light in the house is dimming and Lan Wangji loves how Wei Ying looks in the light of the fire but needs him close. "Kiss me."

"I should have worn it up to cook," Wei Wuxian murmurs, having found more than one bit of vegetable in it as he was pulling it up. He leans over Lan Wangji, holding the oil tightly in one hand to warm it as the other reaches for Lan Wangji, bringing his mouth down for a faintly lotus blossom scented kiss.

"I'll be careful, Lan Zhan," he says when they part, "But don't be stoic. If it hurts, you must tell me."

He takes advantage of their closeness and shifts his weight so he can run one hand down Wei Ying's bare side, as always wanting to touch him, no matter their position.

"Not worried about hurting," he states before laying all the way down, uncertain about his patience to make it through this exploration before he pulls Wei Ying down upon him. "Wei Ying must be patient with me."

He knows it will be the allowing of Wei Ying inside that will prove difficult, the commandment to relax and the yield.

"Only if you are patient with me also," Wei Wuxian huffs, a little displeased when Lan Wangji proves his fears correct - he will push himself past what is enjoyable, just to have done it.

It's not as if Wei Wuxian knows what he is doing, either, to navigate this properly. All he knows is that it had not been unpleasant when Lan Wangji put the tip of his finger inside him in the bath, and that his body, warmed by the immense heat of the water, had not been terribly resistant. He gazes down at Lan Wangji. "I think I should put something beneath your hips."

Lan Wangji nods, realizing that Wei Ying's suggestion is a good one and also one he'd previously read about.

"Would you like me to give suggestions?" he offers, taking in Wei Ying's expression which does not seem to read as enjoyment. "Only because I read many." The haze of arousal has cleared a little in face of their mutual uncertainty, Lan Wangji's impulse to take charge trying to resurface.

And Wei Wuxian has read none. He frowns, wondering where and how Lan Wangji has found so many resources when he himself has no idea where to look. He could ask Klaus, he supposes, or venture to the halls of books in the city, but he can't even get to the city without Lan Wangji's help, and even he is unsure how to ask his lover to take him to town so he can read about putting their fingers inside each other.

"I think so," he answers, uncorking the oil to spread it across his fingers. "You simply rubbed at the spot before. Shall I start there?"

"...Yes," he decides, realizing he has only ever imagined doing this to Wei Ying and therefore will need to rethink how best to instruct and to enjoy. "Believe the ultimate goal is to make room for - for a man," he tries, face a little pinched at having to actually say such things out loud. "But there is a place inside try and touch. In and, and up."

He resists the urge to squirm, simply stuffs his seating cushion under his hips and tries not to think about the picture he must make from Wei Ying's view. "Can you kiss me when you do it?"
